GPAC received information about an organization called Statistics Without Borders, which has an arrangement with the American Statistical Association to provide pro bono assistance to non-profit organizations and NGOs. Please see the letter received, below, for more information:

I am one of the new client co-chairs with Statistics Without Borders. I am reaching out to you in the hopes that we might be able to partner with your organization, or partner organizations, pro bono.

Our aim is simple: we provide free expert statistics and data science consulting to not-for-profits like yourselves to help amplify your impact on society. Last year, we tackled 67 projects in 21 countries. Much of our work is humanitarian: e.g we’re helping a climate resilience organization in Canada, improving crop yield measurements in Malawi, and we recently supported HelpAge International on their Sustainable Development Goals work. We have also done statistical training workshops with various nonprofits.

We realize that in today’s world it can be difficult for nonprofits to operate, and that is why we are extending our offer to help more NGOs and nonprofits who may not have the funding resources to sustain their analytic needs.

Statistics Without Borders is financially supported by the American Statistical Association, allowing us to work for free. We are an international organization and we are staffed by statistical consultants, data scientists, and project managers who are vetted, experienced, and mission-driven.

I’d love to answer your questions, toward the goal of SWB partnering with your organization. If you like, I can also set up a meeting to discuss possible projects.

In the meantime, it might be helpful for you to familiarize yourself with the way SWB structures statistical projects, so please take some time to look over some of these videos, which explain the SWB project process and the committees a client will work with on a project.
