Job Description

Applicants with a doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, or comparable degree) in epidemiology, statistics, public health, demography, sociology, or related fields are invited to apply for a postdoctoral fellowship in cancer prevention. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary team that engages in clinical research and the mentorship of medical/graduate students. Our team has been extremely successful in securing research support for cancer prevention, having received more than $15 million in funding over the past decade.

All postdoctoral fellows at UTMB are automatically enrolled in the tuition-free postdoctoral certificate program and will have access to useful didactics, opportunities to mentor medical/graduate students if desired, and numerous career development resources. The UTMB campus is located along the Gulf coast on Galveston Island, a popular location that includes beautiful beaches, museums, historical architecture, a vibrant arts community, excellent restaurants, and warm weather year-round. Galveston is only 45 minutes away from Houston, the nation’s fourth largest city. UTMB currently consists of four schools (Medicine, Nursing, Health Professions, and Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences) and is adding a School of Public Health in 2022. The institution owns a network of hospitals and clinics that provide numerous opportunities to conduct clinical research. Within UTMB, total grant funding for FY2020 was $168.9 million, an increase of $29.4 million from the previous fiscal year.
